I think Sang Kancil asked all the crocodiles to line up in a straight line cos the King is having a feast and he is inviting everyone. So, Sang Kancil had to count the crocodiles. Then, he made the crocodiles promise not to eat him cos if not, he can't report back to the king. In the end, Sang Kancil managed to cross to the other side by stepping on all those crocodiles.
